| Field notes | Shrub. Maasai name: esiteti or oláushan Best wood for making all kind of walking-sticks. Decoction of root is mixed with meat soup. The bark is used to "tie" for a person, who doesn't feel very well. A string of the bark is passed to one representative from each ageset, who make a knot, bless it by spitting on it and the string is tied around the ankle or wrist of the person. Oloirago ole Mayanga, Ilchololik-age group, living in Aldarpoi: Used for sticks, as posts and poles for construction of walls in the hut and as poles in the roof. It is the best as it is hard and resistant against insects and last 6-8 years. Bark is used for "engopit" string. |
