Field notes Tree Maasai name eluai (small) oluai (big). Used to dry and clean the women's womb after delivery. 3-4 pieces 20 cm long and c. 4 cm thick pieces of wood with bark or roots (they have the same value) is boiled and drunk first with soup as long as it is available, later it can be drunk mixed with milk or porridge. The decoction is red and without bitter taste. 10-15 litres of the decoction made of 3-4 pieces of bark or roots, 30 cm long and 5 cm thick, boiled at least one hour and given to cows after delivery to remove the placenta, the treatment is repeated after 1/2 hour if placenta isn't delivered. People from Endulen prefer this species for treatment of cows. Decoction made of 2 pieces 20 cm long and 4 cm thick is boiled in 2 litre of water and mixed with 3 litre of milk (if possibly always more milk than water) to make "olomelok" to make the milk go further, particularly drunk by children to satisfy their stomach. The decoction can also be mixed with soup drunk by men to dilute the fat, but only used for this purpose if it is easy available. Women at the boma of ole Sanguyan, Sendui: Used for soup for women 2-3 days after delivery. Two pieces of bark of a size as an open hand is boiled in 4-5 litre of water for 1/2-1 hour and mixed with 3 litre of soup. "Eluai" is used 1 1/2 - 2 months after delivery either in soup or in thin maize porridge. The same amount is used for porridge. If it isn't available "alasesia / alaisesiai" can be used. Koto kunyinya Nailole (called Ngilole), traditional mid-wife, Olmekeke: After abortion the women is given fat, eventually with "engoisikirianchoi", if enough fat isn't available. Then she is given a decoction of 2-4 pieces of bark as big as an open hand, which are boiled in 2 litre of water and mixed with one litre of soup or some fat. "Eluai" support to clean the vomb and makes it dry. "Orng'wong'wenyi" can also be used for same purpose, but is not of same quality. Drunk by women after delivery first mixed with meat soup, later, when soup isn't available with light maize porridge or decoction is drunk pure instead of water. Drunk in free amount every day in one to two months until the woman is strong, because it clean the stomach and also increase amount of blood. To mix with meat soup 4 pieces of bark as big as an open hand or wood pieces is boiled for 2 hours in 3 litre of water and mixed with 1 litre of soup.
