Field notes Young leaves taken at the stage when they may be used to make "Panama hats". The green margins are removed and the white central part are dried white still at- tached to the stipe. After that they may be dyed or used right away. The hats are made between 5 and 7 in the morning as the fibers may not be too dry during the work. 1,5 leaf is necessary to make one hat.
