Field notes Height 7 m. DBH 7 cm. Root cone mixed with old and young, red roots, up to 50 cm. Stem: base is brown with longitudinal cracks, nodes and internodes hardly visible, top smooth, brown-yellow with obvious nodes and internodes 3-4 cm long. Inflorescence infrafoliar, 4 nodes below the lowest leaf base, peduncle swollen, below the first prophyll bract scar and entirely surrounding the stem. Prophyl to peduncular bract the distance 2 cm long and 4 cm wide. Rachis 28 cm long and rachillae are unbranched, 65 cm long app. 85 rachillae. Leaf sheath cylindrical, 80 cm long, orange colored, with loose cover of hairy scales. Petiole 5 cm long, 3 cm wide, rounded below, channeled above, densily covered with castanuos scales, scales 2 mm long, lanceolate. Leaf blade 280 cm long, 130 cm wide, midpinnae 80 cm long, 56 pinnae per side. Leaf rachis slightly curving, pinnae at one plane in young leaves, in older leaves very slightly pendulous (not like E. precatoria). Inflorescence pinnae is inserted all around the rachis
