Locality Quininde Cantón. Bilsa Biological Station. Mache Mountains, 35 km W of Quinindé, 5 km W of Santa Isabel. Premontane wet forest. Collected along the Cube river, 30 m upstream from main pathway to where Humberto Alcibar used to live (NE corner of reserve). Another tree was seen next to Humberto's old house on the top of the hill.

Field notes Tree, 19 m tall. DBH 47.5 cm. Base of petiole enlarged and subwoody. Leaf blade to 55 x 21 cm. Inflorescence a terminal panicle to 35 cm long. Petals 5, valvate, dark purple on inside and greenish purple on outside. Stames 5 yellow with apical pores. Fruit a capsule. Flowers preserved in alchol.
