Field notes Terrestial herb. 1.5 m. Base brown, leaf sheaths green, ligule green, petiole green, and leaves dark green with light green underneath. Inflorescence arising from the ground rhizome, near or c. 3-4 cm or more from the base of the leafy shoot or occasionally produced in cluster of 4-5 at the end of the bulb-like rhizome; peduncle bracts pale white, sterile bracts red but occasionally with green shade, fertile bracts and bracteole pale to mild red, calyx red, petals red; labellum plain red, elongated, frilled margin; anther pale red, stigma dark red. Fruits black purplish-red or greenish red.
