| Field notes | Shaded evergreen forest. Leaves 5-10, 3-4 m tall, petiole 2 m with spines 4-6 cm long, deeply grooved in the lower ½, leaflets in groups 5-10 cm apart, c. 20-25 groups, each leaflet in a group in a different plane from others; scape from base of plant, emerging through and splitting base of petiole; c. 1 m long, trailing, with 3.4 globose clusters of fruits; fruit red-brown outside, inside white and succulent.
