| Field notes | Arborescent, 12 m tall. Trunk = 54 cm dbh, 4 m long. Crown of plant 6 m wide, composed of about 80 ultimate stems. Buds up to 10-15 per stem, inserted in a ring on ultimate 5 cm of stem, of unequal size. Flowers 1-several per distal stem, horizontal. Hosting a multitude of ferns, orchids, bromeliads, and lichens. (Note: This individual is among the largest cacti I have seen in Ecuador). Liquid material available at AAU. Box collection (spines) available at AAU. |
