Field notes "Arborescent, 7 m high. Stems spiny in distal 15 cm. Buds acute. Flowers (measurements from a single flower appearing later on a cut stem) 6.4 cm long, 5.8 cm wide at rotate limb, odorous, slightly zygomorphic. Ovary 5 mm wide, 4 mm high. Floral tube 16-17 mm wide; wall 4-5 mm thick. Petals about 13, 14-21 mm long, 5-8 mm wide, of markedly unequal size, rounded to acute at apex, mucronate, white, slender. Sepaloids about 13 distal ones, lower ones grading with the bracts, to 25 mm long, 7-9 mm wide, fleshy at base, red-brown at apex, irregularly alternating with the white petaloids. Nectaries covering a zone 12 mm long, filled with nectar. Corona formed by the anthers 23 mm wide. Lower filaments declinate, to 17 mm long, the distal ones 13 mm long. Anthers 2-4 mm long. Style 40 mm long. Stigmas 11, 8 mm long, halfway exserted beyond anthers. (Same individual as Madsen 7311 [in fruit]). Liquid material available at AAU."
