| Field notes | Bush, more or less creeping, to 0.5 m high. Joints dark green, about 1 cm thick. Leaves 2.0-2.5 mm long, green with darker tips. Spines not widely spreading, brownish, getting grey with darker tips. Flowers up to 5 on a single joint. Pericarp 1.0-1.5 cm thick, 1.5-2.5 cm long. Perianth about 8 mm long. Outer tepals orange, yellowish toward midrib. Inner tepals orange. Style white. Stigma-lobes white, not well-developed. Filament orange, pale toward base. Anther white. |
