| Field notes | Columnar, unbranched or branched at base on laying or damaged stems, forming groups, 0.5-1.5 m high. Stems 4-8 cm thick, dark green. Ribs 12-14, low. Spines brownish, getting grey. Flower red. Style pale, apically tinged violet. Stigma-lobes yellowish green. Filament pale, apically third violet. Fruit subglobose, 1.5-3.0 cm in diameter, green, getting dark green to brownish toward the top. Flesh of fruit white. . |
