| Field notes | Plant about 1 m tall. Joints wide, up to 25 cm long. Spines 10 or more, max. 3 cm long, white with darker tips. Flower about 5 cm long, orange red with a brown gleam. Fruit 5 cm long, 3 cm in diameter, dark red, spiny, dark areoles with white spines. |
