| Field notes | Plant up to 1 m tall. In the shadow a little higher. Joints about 20 cm long. Spines 5-8 or more, up to 3 cm long, grey with darker tips. Flower yellow, later orange. Fruit spiny, 3-4 cm in diameter, red. The plant is seen both natural and cultivated, difficult to distinguish. This material is from a moderate spined one. |
