Field notes 5 m tall. In water. Leaves 2 m. Spiny. Spines in bands on trunk, pointing downwards. Fruits yellow. Inflorescence spiny. Ants in basis of leaves. Local name: "Wiririma". Said to be eaten by monkeys.
