Field notes 12 m high. Leaves up to 6 m long. Leaf sheath wooly and fibrous. Trunk glaborous, with circular rings at intervals of abouth 10 cm. Diameter at base 25 cm., below leaves 20 cm. Longitudinal furrows in the bark. Thin supporting roots. Fruits pale grey green to black. Local name: "Uriguragua", fruits are edible, and oil extract are used as hair pomade etc., and used as a re- fressing drink in warm water. Spicy taste.
