| Field notes | Tree palm. Immense solitary palm, to 30m tall; dbh 27cm, internodes 2 cm, pale brown, distally internodes 2 cm only. Crown of 13 leaves; crownshaft 1m long, c. 2x diam of trunk; sheaths with dull greybrown indumentum. Leaves c. 3m long; petiole very short or absent. Rachis grey brown. Leaflets 102 on each side of the rachis, moderately pendulous but not strongly so. Inflorescence intrafoliar, massive, spreading, branching to 3 orders, c. 1m long, but with a spread of 1.5m. Lowermost first order brach almost as long as entire inflorescence. Prophyll 65cm long, pale yellowish green, 65x18cm; rachillae to 45cm, rather curved, green. Fruit egg-shaped, yellow turning red. Uses: Apex eaten, wood for arrow heads and floor boards. Geology: Coral limestone. Alluvium |
