| Field notes | Sparsely clustering palm, with short stilt roots; stem very hard to 6m tall; d.b.h.7cm; stem brown, ringed with close leaf scars; crownshaft not developed; leaves ca. 6 in crown, porrect; sheaths densely covered in thick red brown indumentum, the margins edged with pale brown fibers; petiole absent; apparent petiole ca. 15cm, edged with the remains of the fibrous leaf sheath. Leaf marscecent, to 2m long, with 34 regularly arranged leaflets on each side of the rachis, very slightly sigmoid. Inflorescence erect, very large; peduncle 2m long, rounded in cross section, ca. 15mm diam., green basally, covered with a thin layer of tomentum, pinkish distally and glabrous, branching to 2 orders; rachis 40cm; first order branches conspicuously swollen at the base; rachillae somewhat pitted; prophyll elongate. Leaves of sucker shoots bifid, young leaves tinged pink. |
