| Field notes | Solitary palm, this individual unbranched. Stem to 6m tall, ca. 18cm diam.; base swollen with a boss of roots, trunk surface brown, nodes very close, upper part of trunk obscured with long pendulous pale brown fibres. Leaf to 3.5m, petiole 1m, leaflets regular, ca. 45 on each side of the rachis, dull dark green. Inflorescences arising from among the fibre with slender spreading branches. Flowers at anthesis yellow. Almost mature fruit green. Extensively used for thatch. |
