| Field notes | Elegant small solitary palm. Stem to 2.75m tall, ca. 5cm diam., grey except near the crown where green, obscurely ringed and vertically cracked. Ca. 14 leaves in the crown. Crownshaft well developed, green, flecked with chocolate-colored scales, swollen; sheath 25cm; leaf excluding sheath 1.5m, usually less, emerging leaf pink; petiole absent; leaflets ca. 22 on each side, irregularly arranged, in 3's (4's), fanned within the groups. Inflorescence with 3 orders of branching, all axes covered in caduceus chocolate-colored scales; rachillae pendulous. Flowers minute. Immature fruit green. V.N.: "tsingovatra" |
