| Field notes | Acaulescent, though some large individuals have a short above-ground stem (less than 1 m tall). Leaves 5-6 m long. Pinnae opposite. The midvein of each pinna protrude above and below; the pinnae also have a submarginal vein protruding below. Midpinnae 70 cm long. Single male inflorecence (in anthesis), interfoliar and corn flour-yellow. Fertile part 50 cm long and up to 6 cm in diameter. The enveloping bract is, on the outside yellow at base and light green at apex, while it is yellow on the inside. Small bees were swarming around the inflorescence. Small brown curculionids and small black rove beetles abounded among the flowers.
