Field notes Solitary. Stem with apical part upright and basal part more or less horizontal. Stem light-browm; upright part 3.1-3.3 cm thick and ca. 12 cm long. Leaves 10, plus 1 spearleaf. 3 broad pinnae and somitimes 1-few narrow pinnae per side. An upper leaf: rachis 57 cm long; blade ca. 40 cm broad at its widest section; blade bifid for 1/3 of its length; petiole 35-40 cm long. The secondary veins protrude alternately above and below. The rachis and the secondary veins which protrude below are brownish tomentose abaxially. Only one persistent leaf sheath. 2 spicate inflorescences and 1 infructescence. The inflorescences are interfoliar with the axis green and with the floral pits with prominent underlips. The mature inflorescence has the fertile part reddish-purplish. The mature inflorescence: fertile part 22 cm long, while sterile part 45 cm long. var. mystica
