Field notes Small understory palm. Solitary. Stem yellow-brown, 40.5 cm long and varying irregularly between 1.5-2.5 cm in diameter. Uppermost 2 cm of stem covered with dead leaf sheaths. Roots leave the stem on the lowermost 28 cm, especially the basal 5 cm. Leaves 7 + spearleaf. Leaves with 3-5 pinnae per side. Secondary veins protrude alternately above and below. Morphometry of the longest leaf (no. 4 from below): petiole 70 cm long and rachis 44 cm long. 2 purple-red spicate infructescences in the axil of a persistent leaf sheath of a dead leaf. The spikes are 37 and 33 cm long, respectively. The fruits are green.
