| Field notes | On ridge. Soil clayey, slender palm, 3 specimens growing closely together. Stems ca 4.5 m high, and 6 cm in diameter, trunk grey, without leafbases and with indistinct scars. Rosette of leaves, 2 m high and 1.5 m wide. Number of leaves 6, sheath 27 cm long, open for 12 cm, greenbrown; rachis 1.3 m, adaxially ridged, with two longitudinal sulcae; petiole 21 cm; pinnae 20 pairs, proximal ones alternate in upper leaves soon becoming opposite, in other leaves alternate; leaflets dark green above and light green beneath, 45 by 4 cm in middle portion of leaf, with two longitudinal veins, that are anastomosing at the caudate apex. Infructescence lateral, branched once; each of the 6 branches with 26-29 distichous fruits, which are green initially turning yellowish and finally becoming red first in the distal part of the fruit. Fruit a berry; about 3 by 1.5 cm ellipsoid-obovoid. Infructescence borne just below the leaves. |
