| Field notes | Climper on forest floor and in the canopy. Tubers with thorns. The flesh of the tubers are bright orange. Uses: Poisonous, for tuba fishing. Leaves from Scyphostegis borneensis (H.C. 462) and Temasar (n.c.) are pounded together with the tubers of War Padi in a bamboo container. The juice comes out through a hole in the bamboo and falls into the river where it stunnes the fish. War padi is the most poisonous part of the mixture. Name in Kelabit language: War Padih. |
