| Field notes | "Etlingera sp. nov.Terrestrial herb to 2 m. Rhizome long-creeping. Stilt-rooted (less than 10 cm). Sheath yellow-green, speckled purple, ±glabrous, striate and diffusely cross-barred. Leaves dark green, hirsute on both sides, petiolate 4-6 cm, pubescent; base unequal, oblique. Peduncle 10 cm (infl.) to 20 cm (infr.) Bracts loose, with red-brownish pigmentation especially on upper half. 50-60 flowers per infl. Bracteole with redish-brown pigmentation at apex. Calyx yellow-green with purple-red tip. Corolla warm yellow. Petals with red tips. Labellum with short, central lobe, orange-red. Iban name: Tepus kenyalang. Leaves used for decorating the Kenyalang at the Gawai festival. E. sp. nov. aff fimbriobracteata or muluensis. Flowers in alcohol." |
