Field notes Tree some 8 m. tall. Heartwood dark brown. Smooth grey trunk. big individuals often with bee hives. Uses: The dark heartwood is highly valued for drums, blowpipe, weaving equipments, handels, spinning tops etc. Religious, as the tree is believed to be inhabited by bad spirits it is nessesary to observe dreams and performe several rituals before a tree eventually may be cut, and even so, a longhouse meeting will often decide not to cut the tree anyway. Host for the wild honey bees which delicious honey is extracted! Name in Iban language: Tapang.
