| Field notes | Smallish palm to 15-20 ft.high, the trunk brownish, glossy, evenly ringed, the internodes 3-4 in. apart at maturity, generally one main trunk with several small suckers at flowering size. Leaves spreading with spreading, not dropping pinnae, dark green above slightly paler below, the sheath closed, pink when young with soft fibrous margin. Coma elongate with no well-developed crownshaft, the young spadices in axils of lower leaves, infrafoliar when in flower, the spathes 2, the outer short, ancipitous, open, the inner elongate briefly rostrate, round in bad, rachillae straight, in bud. Spadix at anthesis spreading with enlarged base abd rachillae on all sides at 90 degree angle to rachis. Spadix white or pinkish, the female flowers white, male mostly fallen, fruit not seen |
