| Field notes | Solitary understory palm. Stem 3 m high, 3 cm thick, rough; internodes 0.7-1.3 cm long, brown. Base of stem with few visible roots. Leaves 10; sheath 10 cm long, open to base; petiole 72 cm long, cross-section with sharp margins; rachis 120 cm long; lamina pinnate, 160 cm long, 80 cm wide, flat, glabrous; pinnae 4-5 per side, unevenly wide. Inflorescence infrafoliar; prophyll 19 cm long, 0.5 cm wide, woody; peduncular bract inserted 7 cm from base of peduncle, brown, woody; peduncle 22 cm long, 2.5 cm wide; rachis 40 cm long, red; rachillae 17, 9-48 cm long, green to red. Flowers cream, sunken. Silicagel sample taken. |
