| Field notes | Cespitose understory palm. Stem 1 m high, 1.1-1.2 cm in diameter, smooth; internodes 1.5-3.0 cm long, green to brown. Base of stem with few visible roots. Leaves 5 per stem; leaf sheath 8-9 cm long, open to base; petiole 12 cm long, cross-section just below blade round, near sheath with sharp margins; rachis 42 cm long; lamina pinnate, flat, glabrous, 50 cm long, 26 cm wide. Inflorescence interfoliar; prophyll 9 cm long, 1.8 cm wide, peduncular bract absent; peduncle 1.5-2 cm long, 0.6 cm wide; spike 7-15 cm long. Flowers sunken. Infructescence infrafoliar; peduncle 3 cm long; rachis 15 cm long. Fruits black, smooth. Silica gel sample taken |
