| Field notes | Cespitose understory palm. Stem 4 m tall, 0.4-0.5 cm in diameter, smooth; internodes 7-8 cm long, brown. Leaves 10 per stem; sheath 17 cm long, closed; petiole 2 cm long, with sharp margins; rachis 75 cm long, with 0.1-0.2 cm long, green to black spines; lamina pinnate, 50 cm long, 24 cm wide. Infructescence interfoliar; prophyll 14 cm long, 0.3 cm wide, herbaceous; peduncle 41 cm long, 0.2 cm wide; rachis 8.5 cm long, green; rachillae 4, 0.3-0.5 cm long, green. Fruits red, smooth.
