Field notes Solitary understory palm. Stem 2.3 m long, 3 cm in diameter, yellow-brown; internodes 8-10 cm long; base of stem with few visible roots, visible roots with few spines. Leaves 8; sheath 20 cm long, open, with 3 cm long yellow spines; petiole 20 cm long; rachis 100 cm long, with 1 cm long brown-yellow spines; lamina pinnate, 100 cm long, 50 cm wide, bushy; pinnae 10 per side, irregularly inserted in groups of 2; basal pinnae 16 cm long, middle pinna 28 cm long, apical pinna 20 cm long. Inflorescence interfoliar; prophyll 23 cm long, 1 cm wide, papery, not spiny; peduncular bract 45 cm long, inserted at base of peduncle, brown, papery, not spiny; peduncle 90 cm long, 0.3 m wide, not spiny; rachis 7 cm long, 0.2 cm wide, not spiny; rachillae 7, 5-9 cm long. Flowers brown, sessile. DNA sample taken. Transect RC22, subunit no. 001, in transect
