| Field notes | Cespitose understory palm. Stem 1.5 cm long, 2.5 cm thick, covered by leaf bases; internodes 7 cm long, brown. Leaves 9; leaf sheath 20 cm long, open, with 3 cm long, black spines; petiole 20 cm long, section round; rachis 100 cm long; petiole and rachis with 7-9 cm long cream-colored spines with black apices; lamina pinnate, 130 cm long, 70 cm wide, glabrous; pinnae 42 per side, regularly inserted; basal pinna 40 cm long, middle pinna 40 cm long, apical pinna 20 cm long.
