| Field notes | Understory colonial palm. Stem 3.5 m tall, 4 cm thick; internodes 16 cm long, brown; base of stem with over 50 visible roots, 20 cm long, 0.3 cm thick. Leaves 5 per stem; leaf sheath 15 cm long, open, with 5 cm long black spines; petiole 45 cm long, section round, with 5 cm long cream-colored spines; rachis 64 cm long; lamina pinnate, 70 cm long, 40 cm wide, glabrous; pinnae 38 per side, regularly inserted; basal pinna 17 cm long, middle pinna 20 cm long, apical pinna 6 cm long. Infructescence infrafoliar; peduncle 23 cm long, 0.8 cm wide; rachis 2 cm long, 0.8 cm wide; rachillae 6, 7-10 cm long. Fruits 1 x 1 cm, cream-colored.
