Field notes Solitary midstory palm. Stem 4.37 m long, 2.5-4 cm thick; internodes 4.5-20 cm long, brown, smooth, upper 1/3 covered by spines; base of stem with numerous roots to 14 cm long, spiny, forming a basal root cone. Leaves 6 fresh ones and 1 withered; sheath 17-20 cm long, closed, with black spines, 0.5-2.5 cm long; petiole 30-34 cm long, section margined, with black spines, 0.5-11 cm long; rachis 133-138 cm long, with black spines, 10 cm long; lamina pinnate, 67-80 cm wide, 150-158 cm long, flat, glabrous, pinnae 31-37 per side, insertion regular, basal pinna 28 cm long, middle pinna 38-47 cm long, apical pinna 17-26 cm long. Infructescence, infrafoliar; prophyll 19.5 cm long, 2,5 cm wide, papery; peduncular bract 28,5 cm long, inserted at base, with black spines, 0.5-1 cm long; rachillae 6, 7-9 cm long. Fruits 4 cm long, 3 cm wide, brown/black. Vernacular name: Jahuacte. Informant: Carlos Varguez. Transect HB1546, subunit no. 017; UTM 16Q-0296743-2005659.
