Field notes Cespitose midstory palm. Stem 1.4-3.6 m long, 3-4 cm thick, covered by spiny leafbases; internodes 10-15 cm long, brown, upper 1/3 covered by spines. Leaves 2-6 fresh ones per stem + 2-4 withered; sheath 10-20 cm long, closed; spines, 0.1-2 cm long, black; petiole 50-70 cm long, section margined, with black spines, 0.5-6 cm long; rachis 1-1.4 m long, with black spines, 2-6 cm long; lamina pinnate, 60-80 cm wide, 114-157 cm long, flat, glabrous; pinnae 31-32 per side, insertion regular, basal pinna 27-39 cm long, middle pinna 30-46 cm long, apical pinna 14-17 cm long. Infructescence interfoliar; prophyll 14 cm long, 1 cm wide, papery; peduncular bract 34 cm long, inserted 3 cm from base, brown, woody, with spines 0.5-1.5 cm long, black; peduncle 20 cm long, 0,3-0,4 cm wide, with black spines, 0.2 cm long; rachis 1 cm long, 0,7 cm wide, with tiny black spines; rachillae 7 per rachis, 9-12 cm long.
