| Field notes | Colonial midstory palm. Stem to 3 m tall, 3 cm in diameter; internodes 4 cm long, with spines. Number of leaves 7; petiole 30 cm long, margined; rachis 77 cm long, sheath, petiole and rachis with black spines; lamina pinnate, bushy; number of pinnae per side 25, inserted in groups of 1 - 6, basal pinna 19 cm long, middle pinna 23 cm long, apical pinna 15 cm long.
