| Field notes | Cespitose understory palm. Stem 200 cm long, 1.5 cm in diameter, smooth with spines just below nodes. Number of leaves 9; sheath closed, 13 cm long; petiole 32 cm long; rachis 58 cm long; lamina pinnate; number of pinnae per side 10, inserted in groups of 1-4, basal pinna 17 cm long, middle pinna 19 cm long, apical pinna 17 cm long; sheath and petiole with yellow, flattened spines. Infructescence infrafoliar; prophyll 9 cm long; peduncular bract missing; peduncle 15 cm long, 6 cm in diameter; rachis 0.2 cm long; rachillae 4, to 6 cm long. Fruits globose, purple.
