| Field notes | Cespitose, midstory palm. Stem 3 m long, 3.2 cm in diameter, with black spines just below nodes; internodes 7.5 cm long. Number of leaves 6; sheath 48 cm long; petiole 54 cm long; rachis 66 cm long; lamina pinnate, bushy; number of pinnae per side 23, inserted in groups of 1-4, basal pinna 21 cm long, middle pinna 44 cm long, apical pinna 30 cm long; sheath, petiole and rachis with yellow, flattened spines. Inflorescence interfoliar; prophyll 15 cm long, 3 cm wide; peduncular bract 40 cm long, inserted 7 cm from base, brown, woody; peduncle 29 cm long, 2 cm in diameter; rachis 6 cm long, 0.5 cm in diameter; rachillae 15, 9-15 cm long.
