| Field notes | Cespitose understory palm. Stem 3m long, 4cm thick; spines 3cm long, black. Leaves 7 per stem; sheath 30(+)cm, closed; petiole 62cm, brown, spiny; rachis 154cm; lamina 167 x 70cm; pinnae 24 per side; basal 27cm, middle 36cm, apical 15cm. Infloresence infrafoliar; peduncular bract 35(+)cm, brown with soft spines; peduncle 16(+)cm long, 0.3cm thick, smooth; rachis 4cm long, branched to 1st order; rachillae 12, 20cm long, 0.3 thick; flowers sessile.
