Field notes Cespitose, stem to 5-6 m tall, 1-2.5 cm diam. Few spines on internodes. Leaf spines small, black to brown, flattened on sheath and petiole on lateral to adaxial surface. Blade divided once, apical segment larger; sheath 20 cm; petiole 15-17 cm; rachis 37 cm; petiole, rachis and sheath brown tomentose; ocrea prominent; spines on adaxial/upper surface of blade. Inflorescence interfoliar; peduncle 15 cm; prophyll 16 cm; peduncular bract 37 cm, moderately to densely covered w. spines; rachillae 4, to 10 cm long; corolla spiny. Fruit ovoid, 2x3 cm, rostrate, w. few minute spines
