| Field notes | Cespitose, stems 4-5 m tall, 3-4 cm diam., strongly spiny. Lvs 6-7 per stem; sheath and lower petiole w. dense cover of yellow, flat spines to 10 cm long; petiole 140 cm; rachis 230 cm; pinnae 15-20 per side in groups, pointing in different directions. Infructescense interfoliar; prophyll 20+cm, brown, smooth; peduncular bract 50 cm, covered w. yellow spines to 3 cm long; peduncle recurved, 40+cm long; rachillae 20, 15-20 cm long |
