| Field notes | Acaulescent rosette of giant lvs., 12 m long, petiole 20 cm wide at base, 4 m long; lamina 810x230 cm with 108 pinnae pr. side, petiole with masses of stiff fibers along the edges. V.n. Piassaba (spanish), chipati (Quechua). Used to tatch houses, fruits eaten when endosperm is still gelatierous, lvs. used to stuff blowgun dartcartridges. Box collection available at AAU. |
