| Field notes | Solitary, stem to 40 cm diam, 15 m tall, brown with deep longitudinal fissueres and 5-10 cm long "spines" from old leaves. Lvs. ca. 20 up to 10 m long, flat or just very slightly bushy NOT bending to vertical plane. In fruvtescence on 120 cm long peduncle, hanging down. Fruits ca 200, rachille 0-1 times branched. Fruits brown ovoid to 8 cm long with varying number of seeds (3-5). Very common in muddy forest along river, with many Astrocaryum murumuru & Phytelephas tenuicaulis- N.v. "Shapaja" used for thatch - very commonly. Palm heart edible. Trunk fellid to grow beetle larvae. Box collection available at AAU. |
