Field notes "Stem solitary 8 m tall, 35-25 cm diameter, basal internodes 10-15 cm long, smooth, grey, upper internodes green; leaf scars 2-5 cm wide forming an irregular ring around the stem. Leaves ca. 12, erect; sheath encircling the stem but open to the base in old leaves, ca. 80 cm long; petiole 90 cm long; blade 270x140 cm; pinnae evenly inserted in one plane on each side (not grouped), ca. 85 pinnae per side. Infructescences several, one in the axil of all the lower leaves, infrafoliar, erect. Prophyll 40x5 cm, bicarinate, open abaxially. Bracts several; peduncle 140 cm long, rachis 90 cm long; branches 35-40, 50 cm long; fruits on 3rd order branches (Measurements taken from fallen leaves. Leaf specimen from juvenile rosette."
