| Field notes | Stem solitary, 3 m tall, 4 cm diam. Lvs. 11, simple, bifid, cuneate, sheaths 49 cm, petiole 25 cm, blade 150 cm long and 45 cm wide, rachis 80-90 cm long, primary veins 27 on each side. Inflorescence bud 170 cm long, prophyll 47 cm long, 2.5 cm wide, peduncle 88 cm long, rachis 60 cm long, rachillae 44-48. Locally very abundant along trail between "Kenguimi" and "El Jordan", not seen elsewhere during 4 days walking between "18 de Febrero" and Untsuants. "Pangana" in Shuar, lvs. used for thatching. Our Shuar guides and Sr. Antonio from Kenguime said that this plant was not related to the pinnate leaved form of Prestoea carderi, with which is was found, growing sometimes in mixed stands. |
