Field notes Solitary. Stem 8.10 m tall, 18 cm diam, light-brown with conspicous horizontal rings. Stiltroots 5 cm diam, scarcely prickly, arranged in a loose cone 80 cm tall. Leaves 5-6, arranged in different planes, dead leaves not clearly abscising but one or more leaves hanging for a long time; sheath 185 cm long, the crownshaft 175 cm long, closed for 100 cm, 13 cm diam at middle, greyish-green, smooth; petiole 5-10 cm long, 5 cm diam, green, terete; rachis 370 cm long, conspicously raised along the middle ridge; pinnae 40 on each side, individual, regularly disposited, slightly pendulous. Inflorescence infrafoliar, always one per node. Prophyll 38 cm long, 11 cm wide, green. Peduncular bracts green, conspicously bicarinate toward apex. Infructescence green, pendulous, ovate, 25-32 cm long, 19-23 cm wide, with numerous densely arranged fruits so it appears as a solid ball. Fruits 4-6 angular as seen from above with a rounded apical surface with a verrucose surface.
