Field notes Solitary. Stem 10 m tall (up to 18 m in other individuals), 15 cm in diam at base, 10 cm in diam at apex, light brown, with scattered lenticels. Stilt roots 50 cm tall, individual roots 3 cm in diam, with somewhat sharp warts. Leaves 5 in the crown, horizontally spreading, arranged in 5 different planes, old leaves not cleanly abscising and therefore 1 or more dead leaves always hanging from the palm; leaf sheath 167 cm long, greyish green, smooth, the crownshaft 150 cm long, 10 cm in diam at middle, 10 - 15 apical cm of the sheath appearing like a petiole, but distinguishable by marginal remainings, subterete, slightly channeled adaxially; true petiole none; rachis 330 cm long, slightly arched, almost straight, adaxially acute, with a smooth, glabrous area 8 cm long basally, otherwise striate, with brown indumentum, abaxially convex, green with brown indumentum; pinnae 43 on each side, regularly arranged, inserted in one plane, not divided, arched longest pinnae at middle of leaf, up to 102 cm long. Inflorescences infrafoliar, 5 per node. Prophyll and peduncular bracts green in the bud. Infructescence with 6 branches. Fruits with whitish indumentum. Prophyll and 5 peduncular bracts.
