| Field notes | Solitary, but other individuals caespitose. Stem up to 4 m tall, 4 -5 cm in diam., greyish brown, green towards apex. Leaves 10 -12, erect; sheath 40 cm long, 9 cm in diam., triquetrous, dark purple; petiole 0 -1 cm long; rachis 97 cm long, purple, arched; pinnae 38 on each side, regularly arranged, horizontally inserted, but towards apex the rachis bent and the pinnae appearing vertical. Inflorescence infrafoliar, whitish at anthesis with light purple flowers, green in the fruit stage. Peduncle 3 cm long, rachis 21 cm long, rachillae 50, up to 23 cm long, immature fruits green, purplish black when ripe. Peduncular bract deciduous, 40 cm long. |
