| Field notes | . Solitary. Stem 8 m tall, 16 cm in diam, brown, rough, internodes 2-10 cm long. Adventitious roots to 70 cm high, 4 cm in diam. Leaves 4-5 inserted in several planes; sheath 165 cm long, green with brown pubescence, with longitudinal growth; petiole 18-21 cm long, almost terete, 4.5 cm in diam, green; rachis 296 cm long, triangular, longitudinally striate, green; pinnae 30, regularly distributed, each pinnae divided to 10 segments; in one leaf (one side) the pinnae are divided in: 7-6-7-7-8-8-9- 9-10-7-8-9-8-8-8-7-9-7-7-8-7-10-7-8-2-1-1-1-1-1 segments inserted in different planes, outer segments on each pinnae broader, the proximal one erect, distal one pendulous, abaxially light green with yellow veins. Longest segment of middle pinnae 94 cm long, of basal pinnae 70 cm long. Inflorescences infrafoliar, 3-5 per node. Pistillate inflorescence: prophyll 13 cm long, 13 cm wide; lower two peduncular bracts tubular, open at apex, 15-21 cm long, upper three bracts cuculate, persistent, to 86 cm long, ca. 35 cm wide; peduncle 37 cm long, 5 cm in diam, green with short ferrugineous tomentum; rachis 30 cm long; rachillae 21, pendulous, flexuous at apex, the longest ones 98 cm long. Staminate inflorescence: peduncle 24 cm long, terete, yellowish; rachis 20 cm long, longest rachillae 44 cm long; flowers white, visited by numerous Coleoptora, Diptera. |
