| Field notes | Caespitose. Stem to 5 m tall, to 10 cm thick, erect, green, smooth, with up to 15 cm long internodes. Leaves 7, horizontally spreading; sheath 78 cm long, closed for 55 cm, purplish; petiole absent; rachis 218 -228 cm long, round below, flattened above for 1 cm, otherwise angled; pinnae 42 per side, regularly inserted in one plane. Inflorescence infrafoliar, horizontal; base swollen and surrounding the stem. Peduncle 8 cm. Rachis 44 cm. Rachillae regularly inserted and diverging in all directions. Prophyll 36 cm long. Peduncular bract 80 cm in an immature bud, brown. Inflorescence cream coloured, pistillate flowers cream coloured with purple tips. |
